Building a Community of Scholars
The Boniuk Institute's Religion and Public Life Center's Scholars Meeting allows academic scholars from all disciplines to better understand how religion plays a vital role in our world. The goal is to create the best research on religion and share it with an interdisciplinary community. Each week, a scholar presents their own research on religion or work in progress and receives guided feedback from the group.
The Religion and Public Life Center is dedicated to generating the most cutting edge research on religion, and our Scholars Meeting is key to this goal. Each week, we get to hear how others think about the role of religion in our society, which in turn, strengthens our own research.
Our previous scholars and topics have included:
- Sarah Reynolds with "Vodun: Race, Identity, and the Politics of Representation"
- Eduard Van Der Merwe with "Faith, Stigma, and Family Planning in Kenya"
- Bianca Mabute-Louie with "The Politics of Ambiguity Among Chinese Evangelicals in Houston"
The RPLC Scholars Meeting is open to faculty, graduate students, and other researchers from Rice and other institutions. To sign up, please email BoniukInstitute@rice.edu.
