BI Newsletter - October 26 - Religious Literacy and the Work of Living Together

Woman holding a sign about religious diversity in India

How can religious literacy help people navigate religious diversity, engage across differences, and build more inclusive communities? In this edition of the Boniuk Institute newsletter, Religious Literacy and the Work of Living Together, we explore how understanding religion can contribute to intercultural engagement, character development, and stronger relationships across lines of difference.

Discover research and initiatives examining the role of religious literacy in higher education and character development, including a collaborative project involving Rice University, Spelman College, and Harvard Divinity School. The edition also features a conversation between Religion and Public Life Center Director Todd Ferguson and sociologist Josh Packard on younger generations, faith, declining institutional trust, and the importance of relationship-centered religious leadership.

Through research, public scholarship, and conversations with scholars and practitioners, the Boniuk Institute at Rice University advances understanding of religious diversity, pluralism, tolerance, and conflict. This newsletter highlights how that work can inform the ways people learn about religion, engage with different perspectives, and navigate an increasingly diverse world.
