Malcolm Gillis

Malcolm Gillis (Emeritus)

Malcolm Gillis served as the sixth President of Rice University from 1993-2004 and served as a Zingler Professor of Economics and University Professor until his death in 2015. His research and teaching activities included two broad classes of national and international issues, fiscal reform and environmental policy. Gillis authored over ninety articles and co-authored or edited eight books. He served on many boards including the National Council for Science and the Environment, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital,and AECOM Technology Corporation. Notably, Gillis helped co-found the Boniuk Center for the Study of Religious Tolerance in 2004, which later became the Boniuk Institute in 2013.
