Boniuk Institute is proud to partner with Dr. Montra Rogers and HISD Secondary Social Studies in religious literacy education and teacher professional development. In February, 2018, she was awarded the Dr. Rosemary Morrow Supervisor of the Year Award for 2018.
Montra L. Rogers, a native of Houston, Texas holds an undergraduate degree from Texas Southern University and graduate degrees from Houston Baptist University and Nova Southeastern University, where her doctoral research focused on professional development among social studies educators. She has worked in public/ charter, private, and community college education for over twenty years. Currently, she is the Director of Curriculum and Development for Secondary Social Studies for the Houston Independent School District where her work includes all district curriculum, assessments, teacher professional development, and university and community partnerships. Her initiatives include the Teacher Leaders Corps, Black Humanities Seminar with Rice University, and Religious Literacy with Boniuk Institute for Religious Tolerance at Rice. She is the President Elect for the Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association, active in Texas and National Councils for Social Studies, and is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The Texas Southern University National Alumni Association awarded Dr. Rogers the 2017 Excellence in Achievement Award in Education in recognition of her contributions to public education.
